Rebind's goal is to open challenging and inspiring books to readers.
The texts in this collection represent multiple authors and communities from the formative period of Christianity, written approximately between 50-400 CE. The canonical gospel authors—traditionally identified as Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—wrote between 70-100 CE, though scholarly debate continues about their precise identities. These writers emerged from different contexts: Mark likely wrote for a Roman audience during or after the Jewish War, while Matthew addressed Jewish Christians concerned with Jesus’s connection to Hebrew prophecy. In contrast, the authors of Gnostic texts often wrote from marginalized communities that emphasized mystical experience and esoteric knowledge, preserving alternative traditions about Jesus’s teachings that didn’t survive in mainstream Christianity.
These diverse authors created their works against the backdrop of significant historical upheaval—Roman imperial domination, the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE, and increasing tensions between Jewish and Gentile followers of Jesus. Their writings reflect different cultural influences: Greek philosophical concepts, Jewish mystical traditions, and Roman imperial politics all shaped how they interpreted Jesus’s significance. While the canonical gospels eventually became central to orthodox Christianity, the Gnostic and apocryphal texts represent vibrant “roads not taken” in Christian development. Together, these multiple voices capture a crucial moment when Christianity was still defining itself through a rich diversity of perspectives, before boundaries between orthodoxy and heresy were firmly established.
This is the most creative and interesting book-related AI tech I've seen so far, and I'm happy to see big-name authors leading by example with their openness to exploring generative uses of this technology.

I am suddenly seeing what I was missing, marveling at the explosive possibility of interacting in these discussions. I didn't realize how organic the interactions can be. I only had to make one comment, read the response and then follow up, and all of a sudden I was learning unexpected things.

There are a collection of books that are a little intimidating because I never approached them or spent time with them. Having this guided experienced with great context through video and an AI personality to chat with really helps with that.

I felt like this was the best parts of a literature course, where you get the knowledge of someone who has really studied the text without the drain of having to write a paper at the end. For me, this is really kind of perfect.
