About Laura Kipnis

CULTURAL CRITIC, ESSAYIST, REBINDER

Laura Kipnis is a provocative cultural critic and feminist author known for her incisive commentary on gender, sexuality, and power dynamics. She has authored six books including Love in the Time of Contagion, Men: Notes from an Ongoing Investigation, and Against Love: A Polemic. Her essays have been included in The Best American Essays 2016 and The Contemporary American Essay.

Kipnis is professor emerita in the Department of Radio/TV/Film at Northwestern, taught previously at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Michigan, and has been a visiting professor at NYU, Columbia University School of the Arts, University of British Columbia, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

For Kipnis, Romeo and Juliet is an exploration of personal freedom as experienced in the context of love. “Of course, Romeo and Juliet would fascinate me. It's like ground zero for every future demand for personal freedom and individual autonomy,” she says about the book. Read Romeo and Juliet with Laura Kipnis for a contemporary feminist perspective on the classic story, exclusively on Rebind.

I am suddenly seeing what I was missing, marveling at the explosive possibility of interacting in these discussions. I didn't realize how organic the interactions can be. I only had to make one comment, read the response and then follow up, and all of a sudden I was learning unexpected things.

I've been reading Thus Spoke Zarathustra on Rebind, and it's magical. It's suddenly difficult to imagine reading without having this ongoing discussion where I can ask a hundred questions.

There are a collection of books that are a little intimidating because I never approached them or spent time with them. Having this guided experienced with great context through video and an AI personality to chat with really helps with that.

I felt like this was the best parts of a literature course, where you get the knowledge of someone who has really studied the text without the drain of having to write a paper at the end. For me, this is really kind of perfect.
