High school and college educators can apply for Rebind’s Classics in the Classroom grant for an opportunity to provide their students with complimentary use of the company’s expert-guided e-reading experience
BOSTON – To celebrate National Reading Month, Rebind, an innovative e-reading publishing company transforming classic literature into interactive, guided experiences, announced Classics in the Classroom, a grant program for U.S. high school and college educators and their students. Teachers and professors who are actively teaching literature, humanities, or related subjects can apply for a chance to gain free access to Rebind’s offerings. Through the initiative, selected educators and their classes will have access to dynamic, expert-guided discussions with some of today’s greatest thinkers – enabling students to read deeper through a personalized experience that makes literature come to life.
“Teaching classic literature is not about looking backward—it is about helping students see themselves in these stories so they can recognize their struggles, ambitions, and dreams in the pages of great books,” said John Kaag, co-founder of Rebind and Professor of Philosophy at UMass Lowell and the Santa Fe Institute. “This grant is about equipping educators with new tools that promote thoughtful engagement and inspire lifelong curiosity.”
With Rebind’s book club-style discussions, educators can foster dynamic dialogues that develop students’ critical thinking skills and forge connections across time and culture. Rebind’s AI-powered e-books enable students to ask books questions and get personalized answers based on original commentary from expert Rebinders such as Deepak Chopra, Roxane Gay, Derren Brown, and more.
“Rebind makes classic literature more attainable, interactive, and meaningful for today’s students,” said Clancy Martin, Deputy Publisher at Rebind and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Missouri - Kansas City. “I wish I had something like Rebind as a student reader—it would have made all the difference."
Developed by a team of educators, the Rebind reading experience includes:
- Interactive conversations: Students can explore experts’ interpretations, historical context, and reflections with dynamic discussions based on hundreds of hours of original commentary.
- Immersive, thought-provoking videos: Throughout the book, readers can hear personal anecdotes from Rebinders, gain insight into the time period and setting, and unpack the deeper meaning behind the text.
- Transparent sourcing: With the X-Ray feature, educators and readers see when chat discussions reference source materials beyond Rebinders’ original commentary for added clarity and context. Students can also read vetted, relevant articles that add more context.
- Active reading tools: Users can highlight, react, and make notes to develop their own analysis. With the Reflections feature, students are encouraged to formulate and write down their opinions about the text and how it connects with their lives.
“Reading with videos, contemporary language, and the ability to ask questions is fantastic,” said Michael Lubelfeld, an Illinois superintendent who read Walden. “Rebind’s interactive platform will be very helpful for introducing classic literature to students.”
Grantees’ classrooms will have access to a Rebind title of their choice for the Fall 2025 term. Rebind’s library includes titles like Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby, Heart of Darkness, Metamorphosis and Two More Stories, and more – with the library continuing to expand.
